    An Unexpected Encounter

One sunny Saturday afternoon Sarah, an ordinary 16-year-old student, instead of sticking to the usual route to meet her friends at the park, decided to take a shortcut through a neighbourhood she didn’t know much about. With her headphones on and her favourite playlist on, she was all set for the mini-exploration.

As she was walking down a couple of side streets, Sarah spotted a sign that read “Paws & Claws Pet Shelter”. Her heart skipped a beat. She had always had a weakness for animals — especially cute, fluffy puppies. Unable to resist the temptation, she turned off her way and headed for the shelter. As soon as she stepped inside, she was greeted by a chorus of barking and meowing. It was like she had entered another world filled with wagging tails and curious noses. Inside, Sarah was greeted by the shelter’s owner, Mrs. Thompson, an elderly lady with a warm smile and a heart full of love for all the animals.

While she was exploring the rows of eager animals, Sarah found that her attention was drawn to a scruffy little terrier named Max. He had this goofy look in his eyes, and she couldn’t help but laugh when he tried to play with her shoelaces. There was this instant connection between them, and Sarah felt warmth as she imagined how great it would be to have him as a friend. For a moment, she forgot all about her friends waiting in the park, as Max captured her attention with his playful tricks.

Eventually, after what felt like forever but was really just an hour, Sarah realized she had to head back. As she waved goodbye to Mrs. Thompson and Max, who gave her one last hopeful look, something clicked in Sarah’s mind, and she found herself wanting to be a part of that warmth. Now, Sarah left with a strong intention to persuade her parents to adopt the dog. Besides, she made up her mind to volunteer at the shelter, helping out wherever she could and giving those animals the love they deserved.
